Summer Ball Evaluations
Summer baseball is just around the corner and Little League Alberta District 8 will organize Teenage teams for our four member leagues based on interested athletes and overall ability to play in the month of July and into early August.
Here are some details…
- Athletes must be registered with a league in District 8 and playing on an Interlock team this spring in the Intermediate, Junior or Senior divisions.
- The age group of the team or teams will depend on interested athletes and the ability of those athletes. Teams will play 3-4 games on a weekend, so pitching will be a primary evaluation component.
- The Summer Ball season will be June 28 to August 5. There are five weekends of ‘regular season’ play teams may commit to, and a championship weekend on the August long weekend. Athletes need to be available during this six week period to play on weekends, practice weekdays, and some allowances can be made for some short term absences.
- Travel will be required on weekends provincially to Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Edmonton and other areas outside Calgary. There will be weekends of play in Calgary, we just don’t where all the teams will come from until mid to late June.
- Registration fees will be kept as low as possible, and should be under $500 per player. Parents are responsible for any travel related expenses including accommodation, transportation and meals for any required travel.
- We will need volunteer coaches (primarily parents) to help with evaluations and lead the summer team or teams.
- Athletes must attend an evaluation on Sunday, May 26, and possibly Monday, May 27. There is no charge to attend the evaluation.
- All athletes attending will also be considered for the Intermediate, Junior and Senior tournament teams that will be attending Alberta Divisional championships in July.
